I’ve been a fan of Din’s music for quite some time, going all the way back to his time with The Soles.  A Canadian singer, songwriter and artist, Din has made his mark on the music industry with his heartfelt lyrics that make you think about yourself and we live in, while still referencing some fun stuff like his love of Star Wars.  When Din started his new F-105 project, I was right on board, enjoying the first album, released in 2018.  I couldn’t wait to check out new music from F-105 and finally, we have F-105 II: Side B.

F-105 II is an album recorded in two halves, one with full band background and one acoustic.  With the outbreak of Covid-19 and the resulting lockdowns, it was only common sense that the acoustic side be recorded and released first.  Quarantining often leads to self-introspection and Din’s compositions during this time period speak about relationships and memories from his recent tour before the world turned upside down.

My favorite tracks on this EP are somewhat emotional journeys.  If I Were About To Die is a song about the loss of a relationship and what one might want to say to someone if they were about to lose them.  The song reveals heartfelt feelings and wishes the other half of the relationship well, despite the sadness felt at the loss.  Finally Found A Way, with its great harmonica accompaniment is a great track that speaks of self-expression and of finally finding a way to get to that long-awaited goal.  Bull Out of Gate might be my favorite song.  The guitar is accompanied by synths in a fast-paced motion…something you would want to listen to if traveling in a car.  The song speaks to how Din felt while touring in Europe and his adventures in Paris.

I’m not always a fan of acoustic music, but F-105 II: Side B is a pretty good EP.  I, for one, can’t wait to hear Side A!
